Process Description

JXSC has provided a complete set of processing plant machines for a Nigerian customer: a 120tpd lithium processing plant. We offer the detailed layout design with base construction drawings, accordingly. We also send the engineer to the site to set up the plant.

Client Background and Requirements

The Nigerian client is a small-scale hard rock lithium mining company seeking a reliable and easy-to-operate processing solution for spodumene ore with a raw material grade of 2% Li₂O and a maximum feed size of 200mm. They require an initial processing capacity of 120 tons per day (TPD), with the flexibility to expand to 200–240 TPD in the future. The system must offer efficient lithium recovery, low maintenance, and stable operation under local conditions, balancing cost-effectiveness with scalability to support future production growth.

Our Process Design & Solution

The process is as follows

The 120tpd lithium ore processing plant is configured with chute feeder, a primary/fine jaw crusher, belt conveyors, a ball mill, a spiral classifier, a hydrocyclone, a mixing tank, flotation machines, a thickener, a disc vacuum filter machine, and so on.

1. Feeding & Crushing System (Operates 12H/D, 10TPH Capacity)

1. Chute feeder delivers raw material (≤210mm) to the primary jaw crusher
2. Primary jaw crusher reduces material to 40-100mm
3. Output passes through a 20mm vibration screen

  •  0-20mm material: Sent directly to stockpile
  • +20mm material: Sent to fine jaw crusher for secondary crushing

3. Mud Water Removal System (Operates 24H/D, 5TPH Capacity)

HydroCyclone separates mud from slurry

  • Overflow: Mud water to the tailing pond
  • Underflow: Clean slurry to the flotation system

5. Li2O Concentrate Dewatering

1. Thickener concentrates the slurry
2. Disc vacuum filter removes water:

  • Produces dry concentrate (low moisture)
  • Water is recycled to the processing plant

2. Ball Mill Grinding System (Operates 24H/D, 5TPH Capacity)

1.  Electromagnetic feeder transports 0-20mm ore to the ball mill
2. Ball mill grinds material to the target fineness:

  • Spodumene: 200mesh (75-80% passing)
  • Lepidolite: 120mesh (60-70% passing)

3. Spiral classifier creates a closed circuit:

  • Overflow: 100-200mesh slurry (product)
  • Underflow: Returns to the ball mill for regrinding

4. Flotation System (Adjustable Process)

1. Slurry mixes with chemicals in two mixing tanks

2. Roughing flotation (4 cells):

  • Concentrate advances to cleaning
  • Tailings proceed to scavenging

3. Cleaning flotation (5-8 cells, 2-3 stages): Produces high-grade Li2O concentrate
4. Scavenging flotation (8 cells, 2 stages): Maximizes lithium recovery from tailings
